Paul W. Swanson, 71, of Rockton, IL, died at 11:58 p.m., Tuesday, December 19, 2017 in Beloit Memorial Hospital after a brief illness.

Born March 1, 1946 in Rockford, IL the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest and Edna (Johnson) Swanson. Graduated from East High School before attending Rock Valley College and graduating from Northern Illinois University with a Bachelor’s degree. He married Barbara Snively before her passing in 1994, and then married the former Deborah E. Thompson in Rockford, IL on March 18, 1995. Paul was employed as a systems analyst by American Family for over 15 years before retiring in July of 2017. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force serving during peaceful time.
Survivors include wife Debbie; sons Eric P. Swanson of Albuquerque, NM, Jarrod (Dawn) Danielewicz of Loves Park, IL and Jonathan (Julie) Danielewicz of Machesney Park, IL; daughters Jessica (Doug) Durso of Madison, WI, Jenifer (David) Shelton of Loves Park, IL and Johanna Swanson of Rockton, IL; sons Justin and Jacob Swanson of Chicago, IL; daughter Jocelyn Swanson of Lincoln, NE; six grandsons; ten granddaughters; one great grandson; brother Carl (Jann) Swanson of Rockford, IL as well as several nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents and his first wife.

Memorial ceremonies will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, December 30, 2017 in McCorkle Funeral Home- Rockton Chapel, 767 N. Blackhawk Blvd, Rockton, IL with the Reverend Dan Herman of Old Stone Church officiating. Cremation rites will be accorded. Final resting place will be Arlington Cemetery, Rockford, IL. Visitation will be held at the funeral home at 10:00 till time of ceremony Saturday.
A memorial has been established to the American Diabetes Association.
