John Hegberg

John Hegberg

It is with a heavy heart that I have to let everyone know that John Hegberg died on 5/1/2021.

John served in the Air Force at Thule, Greenland and Minot, N. Dakota and often said that these were the two coldest places on the planet Earth.

He was an avid collector of yearbooks - including every yearbook of every school in Rockford, Il.

He was a large supporter of our Class at East High, and had a great deal to do with getting this page up and running.  We can only hope that we can keep it going.  We will all miss the great work that he did on this site.

It truly was sad to hear of John's passing. My condolences to his family, close friends and our classmates.

Having been in the computer industry, I understand the time and effort he must have put into creating and maintaining this website. It was a passion of love. It really helped to keep our class updated on each other and maintain lasting friendships.  Something we can all appreciate and value. Thank you, John!!

Additionally, a huge thank you to Linda for taking on the responsibility of maintaining it. These are big shoes to fill, so to speak. It's a valuable knowledge source and communication resource to all of us.  Linda, YOU are the best!  Your commitment to our class, like John's, is reflected in your many informative postings here and on Facebook. Thanks again from someone living far away!!

Cheers!  Paul

Clearly, we all owe John a tremendous debt of gratitude for all he did to keep us together whether near or far. He will be missed.

I was glad to meet John at the 50th reunion. I never knew him in high school, but I did know his cousin Stan, who predeceased John. I'm so sorry that they are both gone.

So sorry to hear of John's passing - he was truly a good person and an important member of the "glue committee" that keeps our class informed and together.  My condolences to his family - he will be missed by all of us.

Kudos to Linda for stepping up to keep John's work moving forward.

So sad to hear of John's passing.  My condolences to his family.  Although I graduated from Guilford, many of my friendships go back to my sophomore year at East.  Many of you may not remember how the dividing line between East and Guilford was to be determined.  Was it going to be Rural St. or Guilford Rd.?   School board voted it to be Rural Street. And yes politics played into that decision since many students went to Bloom elementary.  When I went to Lincoln, John and I were in the same home room of Mr. Fowler.  In fact, John and I were seated next to each other in home room and also mechanical drawing class.  Not only did I go to Guilford 50th reunion but spent sometime at the East 50th reunion talking with John.  It was John who allowed myself and a few others that graduated from Guilford onto this website.
Congrats and a big thank you to Linda for carrying on with this website.  I am sure there are those that are stepping forward to helping you with this website.
